Think of all the sports, hobbies, and activities you can that are found on the earth and try and guess which one out of all of them is the most popular of all. Most people would name something involving a ball and few would be hard-pressed to come up with the correct answer which is fishing. Seems like the best way to relax and to have a good time is to spend that time with a time tested pole and some bait as well as the more well heeled angler who will spend thousands of bucks outfitting himself with the latest in gear and the best of the bass fishing boats that are available.

When it comes to choosing what type of fishing boat you want, there are two main categories to pick from and those are aluminum boats, and fiberglass boats. Many fishermen choose fiberglass over the aluminum ones because fiberglass does not rust, has no rivets or welded seams, is easier to maintain and many times is lighter in weight so that portability is not a worry and easily accomplished with the fiberglass boat. Also, aluminum is subject to being damaged from bangs, jabs, and dings; whereas the fiberglass is far more durable and holds up much better.

When you start investigating the many types of bass fishing boats that are out there on the market, you will find a dizzying array of sizes, shapes, how they are outfitted, and the different features that are on the various types of boats to fulfill the specific purpose of the type of fishing you will be doing. The more common types of boats are all purpose boats, bass boats, aluminum fishing boats, center console boats, dinghies, flat boats, jon boats, electric boats; the list goes on and on. The differences between boat types are for a reason, for example flat boats are designed to be used in very shallow waters and can be propelled with a small electric motor to sneak up on the fish. Center console boats are more often used for fishing off shore and are designed to withstand rougher waters and deeper waters if you are into salt water fishing. All purpose boats are just as the name implies, and can be used in most situations where bass fishing boats are needed.

Another area that needs to be examined when you are choosing a fishing boat is what features come with that boat and just how many features do you need without depleting your bank account. Most bass fishing boats are designed to fall into the size range of 16 ft. to 26 ft. and are built to carry up to 5 people max. They are usually outfitted to be trailerable, and come with features like live-wells, rod holders, cup holders, various types of motors that can be used on them such as outboards or electric trolling motors. The horsepower in these various motors can range from 25 to 150 on most boats and will get you where you need to go as well as move you around easily on the water when you are actually fishing.

Fishing, as free as it seems, is still subject to rules and regulations that must be followed in order to keep order and keep people safe. Boating rules have some mandatory regulations when it comes to bass fishing boats, and having live-wells for the fish is one; and having an electric trolling motor mounted on the bow is another. Common sense rules also when it comes to handling a boat and it should tell you that to maintain the stability of the boat, and keeping it unencumbered means do not overload it, nor have too many people on board.

When thinking about taking your boat out for a day of fishing and fun, one of the first things you should be concerned about is safety. The observation of basic safety rules is a must when out on the water in a boat and the most basic of these rules is that everyone on board must be wearing a life jacket. No one knows when misfortune will strike and the happiest of days can be ruined in a flash by some sort of unseen tragedy while boating or fishing that could have been prevented if the participants had only observed the basic safety rules and protected themselves. Another unwanted happening while on a boat is fire. Safety regulations for bass fishing boats, and all boats in general, is that fire extinguishers should be placed strategically on the boat where they are easily accessible and the most handy, such as near the motor or engine, and near the galley. Don’t risk having your fun, your fishing trip, and most importantly, your life taken away because you were not prepared safety-wise.

Only you can decide what is right for you when it comes to picking out and using any one of the myriad types of bass fishing boats out there, and being prepared with the facts before you go looking is most important because you will end up with what you want and need, and you will save yourself a lot of grief in the long run as well as get the most for your money. Ultimately, your goal is to have a boat that will last for as long as you need it to without creating worries for you and extra forays into your life savings. There is nothing more pleasurable to a “dyed in the wool” angler than a day of bass fishing on his favorite watering hole in his dream of a boat; and that can be a reality for you too if you plan ahead and don’t leave the happening of a “good time was had by all” to chance.
